The French supermarket chain Carrefour has announced its closure in Jordan, after a year of resolute boycott led to a drop of over 75% in sales since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza.

In March 2022, Carrefour had announced a franchise partnership with Electra Consumer Products (ECP) and ECP’s retail subsidiary Yenot Bitan, both of which profit from illegal settlements in Palestine, leading to boycott action throughout Jordan.

The Jordanian BDS movement declared this a “victory for the Jordanian people”.
