After a joint investigation by several media outlets, Microsoft have revoked the IOF’s access to its AI and cloud services particularly for the ‘cyber warfare’ unit, Unit 8200. The investigation found that millions of Palestinian phone calls had been intercepted and stored by the IOF on Azure servers, including in these “past two years to plan lethal airstrikes in Gaza, as well as to arrest Palestinians in the West Bank”.

Though Microsoft continues to provide the Israeli military with other services, this move marks a significant shift and is the first time a US tech giant has blocked the IOF from its services since Oct 2023.
